Dear
Sponsors,
The
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Task Force of Santa Clara County (FASD
SCC) would
like to thank you for your past support on preventing FASD. We are currently in the planning stages of
our Nine Zero conference on Friday,
September 7, 2007. We will launch our Nine
Zero marketing campaign at the conference, making the statement that during
the nine months of pregnancy, there is no safe amount of alcohol a
woman can
drink, zero! The conference
precedes the 13th Annual International FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum
Disorders)
International Awareness Day on September 9, 2007. So
far, we have
booked our keynote speaker, Dr. Ira
Chasnoff, a leader and an expert in
preventing FASD. Our hope is to raise
enough money to afford the Marriott in Santa Clara as our venue.
The
conference will include a health faire component with multiple
non-profit
agencies, primarily who focus on prevention, treatment and recovery of
alcohol
and other drug addictions. There will be
break-out sessions addressing critical topics such as the impact on our
juvenile justice system, adult justice system, foster care system,
educational
system, and health care, such as Universal Screening.
We will involve judges, local politicians and
department heads in taking a critical look at this issue, along with
direct
line service staff.
As you know, Alcohol causes
permanent brain damage that lasts throughout the baby's lifetime,
resulting in
learning disabilities, attention deficits, birth defects and behavior
disorders
that make it very difficult for an individual to function in life. It is 100% preventable
so long as a woman
abstains from drinking during her pregnancy.
The
FASD Task Force of Santa Clara County is requesting to support the FASD Nine Zero Conference. The event
will reach 300 - 500 people. We are very excited about collaborating
with you
to take this to the next level by joining our Nine Zero
campaign and supporting our Nine Zero Conference in
the Fall. Thank you for taking our request
into consideration. Please feel free to call me if you have any
questions at
(408) 281-6575.
Respectfully,
Debbie
