Boating Enthusiast & San Francisco Bay Promoter,

The South Bay Yacht Club (SBYC) is one of the oldest of 102 yacht/boat clubs throughout Northern California. Our club was founded in 1896 by Mr McKee, and our clubhouse was built in Alviso in 1903.  Our clubhouse is at 1491 Hope Street, Alviso / San Jose.

SBYC was formed to foster communication and cooperation among boaters and sportsmen in the South San Francisco Bay. Today SBYC supports Sea Scout Ship #300 "The Spartans" of Alviso, the promotion of youth sailing. recreational boating and various civic activities.

For up to a century, SBYC has opened the yachting season with a parade of boats large and small.  Opening Day on the South Bay will be Saturday May 24, 2025 with a rubber duckie race as a fundraiser for our Sea Scouts, and a decorated boat parade. 

The theme for this year's parade is "Hands Across the Water". This year's theme "Hands Across the Water" celebrates and honors the vivid historical generations of the South San Francisco Bay! 

The theme is open to many interpretations and skippers are encouraged to be creative. Some boats will fly flags and streamers or just join in the parade not decorated.

Got Boat?  Come out and decorate your boat for this traditional event. Prior to the beginning of the parade is the Blessing of the Fleet.. The parade begins at Noon, so participating in the blessing and parade is possible.  Boat Parade registration is free at www.southbayyachtclub.org/events . There are prize bags and trophies for winning boats. There are categories for decorated to theme Power, Sail, Youth and vessels in the flags & streamers and not decorated to theme categories.
