South Bay Yacht Club Chili Cookoff Rules
Saturday June 14, 2025 Noon-5pm
South Bay Yacht Club - 1491 Hope Street, San Jose
Entering the competition: You must register your entry by June 3. Also, we limit entrants to only one chili entry each. Provide the name of your chili on the space provide on the registration form (example, Chili-Pocalypse, The Spice is Right, etc.)
Sanitary practice: Cooking must be prepared off-site (at your home, for instance) in a sanitary manner, with proper handwashing and food safety practices. Also, ensure that you add no raw meat or uncooked ingredients after initial cooking.
Amount and transport: Make at least a gallon (eight cups) of chili to ensure adequate amounts for judging and public tasting. Bring your chili in your own crockpot/multipot/Dutch oven, with your ladle for serving.
Ingredients: Feel free to use meat, beans, vegetables, and spices, but do not use any purchased chili, even if you add other ingredients. This is your chance to let your creativity shine..Please provide an ingredient list for allergy considerations.
Judging: We focus on taste, aroma, consistency, and texture. Our judges evaluate the chili without knowing who made it (blind judging). Also, we use a scoring system to determine the winner..
Your free ticket: Please note that if you are later unable to enter the competition, but would like to attend the event, we will charge you $15 for your ticket at the door. You might also opt to re-register and pay online.
